The buyer pays shipping, handling and insurance costs.
The specific shipping costs for each item are stated in advance in the individual item description,
in the box just above the Item Specifications and Sales Policies --
Brief. When differently priced options are given, the buyer can choose which shipping
method to use (and pay the corresponding price). Otherwise, we ship via the shipper of our
choice, either US Postal Service or UPS (we usually prefer UPS), depending on size and weight
of the object.
Shipping costs listed are maximum shipping costs. If you have the winning
bids for multiple redsapphire auctions in the same week,
total shipping costs are usually less than if you were to add up the shipping costs for each
individual auction. In order to have reduced shipping costs, the items for which the bids are won
need to meet the following criteria:
-
They must be bids that closed in the same week (usually the same day); if you delay paying for
winning bids one week and win a bid the following week, shipping costs will
NOT be reduced
-
The purchased item must be paid for within one week (reasonable delays for mailing a money
order are accepted); again, because of the overhead and risk of holding items, reduced shipping
charges are not available for delayed purchases
-
The items must be shipped to the same address
-
The purchaser must select the same shipping method for all items
-
Lower shipping rates on multiple purchases are not available in all cases, especially on heavier
items and to some remote destinations such as Alaska and Hawaii
In cases where combined shipping costs may be less, we will notify you when we inform you of
your winning bids.

All items are shipped insured for the amount of the purchase cost (unless the
Sales Policies in Brief for that item specifically states
otherwise). This insurance protects against loss or damage in shipping. If an item is lost or
damaged in shipment (which has occurred only three times in the past five years), then you need
to contact us and we will file a claim with the shipper and work out replacement (if possible) or
refund of purchase price.
If the item was damaged in shipment (as visibly shown by outside damage to the packaging)
then do not open the box or discard any shipping material; it may be necessary to show the
damaged packaging to the shipper to file a claim.
Again, it is rare that we actually have to file a claim, but it is nice to know that the purchase is
insured if necessary.

If special handling options (such as extra insurance or faster shipping) are desired, please request
a quote for the additional shipping charges. It is best that you request this quote
prior to bidding. Do not request "free"
special handling for your bid; such requests are not accepted, as they would be unfair to the other
bidders.
Types of special shipping might include:
-
Faster shipment and/or guaranteed arrival by a specific date
-
Additional insurance valuation (the buyer must be able to provide proof of worth to the shipper
for additional valuation over purchase price)
To request a quote for special shipping options, send an e-mail to:
auctions@redsapphire.com
-
State the auction item number(s) in question
-
State the specific type of special shipping requested
-
State your full street address, city, state and zip code
We will try to get back with you promptly with a quote for your special shipping request

Unless otherwise stated, we ship within three business days of receipt of cleared
payment. We accept
payment via:
Additional privacy and security measures have been taken by banks recently to protect their
customers' information from getting misappropriated. Unfortunately, these measures also add
greatly to processing time and cost.
Because of this, it is usually better for you to pay via a means different than personal check;
USPS Postal Money Orders are strongly encouraged, and actually expedite shipment of your
order.

This item is shipped from the state of Utah. Any item shipped to somewhere in the state of Utah
is charged 6.25% Utah sales tax on the total amount (including shipping costs).
Some purchasers (such as resellers and certain tax exempt organizations) have tax exempt
certificates that allow them to purchase items without paying Utah state sales tax. If this applies
to you, you need to let us know and provide us copies of the appropriate sales tax exemption
information (if you do not know what this information is, then this probably does not apply
to you)
If you purchase an item and it is shipped to you outside of the state of Utah, you may be required
to pay use or purchase taxes to your own state. This is between you and your state. We do not
collect sales tax for items shipped to any state other than Utah.

All auction items are sold as-is, as described. That is why we try to include complete
information (including weight and dimensions). Returns are rare, so please
make sure that this item is for you before you even bid on it.
We will consider returns in some cases (where there are extenuating circumstances) on a
case-by-case basis. Requests for returns must be made within one week of receipt of the
purchased item. If we do agree to accept a return, the item must be shipped back, insured, in the
same condition as it was shipped to the buyer (if item was in a factory-sealed package, it must be
returned unopened). Once the item has been received in the same condition we shipped
out, a refund will be issued for the cost of the product (not including shipping, handling and
insurance costs), minus a re-stocking fee of either 25% or $10, whichever is greater.
|
NOTE: If you ever receive the wrong item, or an item that was materially different than
described, you can return it without any penalties.
However, as each item is described as it is, with pictures, approximate dimensions and weights,
we do not see that happening.
|
Examples where returns would be our fault, and thus penalty free:
-
We ship the wrong item (purchaser wins a radio and we send a plate)
-
Item is blatantly incorrectly described (item is stated as being made of gold, and is actually
plastic painted gold)
-
The item is not the item listed (item is listed as an original Picasso oil painting and turns out to
be a copy of a poster)
Examples where returns are NOT likely:
-
Purchaser changes their mind about buying an auction item
-
Purchaser wants item to be higher value than stated (item listed as "gold-colored paint" and
purchaser buys it expecting it to be guaranteed "24K GOLD")
-
Purchaser hopes item is something that is not stated (item is listed as a "painting" and purchaser
buys it hoping it is an original Picasso)
Again, since returns are rare (our goal is to have a 100% accurate description / shipping rate, so
that we never advertise or ship an incorrect item), it is important that the bidder consider the
item, review the description and only bid on items they are willing to purchase at their bid price.

As is generally the case in software purchases from any store selling retail software, opened
software cannot be returned (software lost or damaged in shipment is, of course, still covered
under the shipping insurance).
Please read the product information (especially System Requirements)
carefully when making your bid. The listing will almost always state what operating system for
which it was designed. Often software written for an older operating system will work on the
later version. For example, software written for Windows 3.1 "or higher" will usually
work on Windows 95.
However, in some cases, Windows 95 programs do not work in Windows 98 (it depends on the
particular system, and varies from one user's machine to another). When you go to Windows
ME, there is an even higher chance that Windows 95 programs will not work (some people will
never even try to use a piece of Windows 95 software on Windows ME, while others will load
and try everything).
Unless otherwise stated, the software we sell is in the same "new" condition as it was when it
came from the factory. So, whether you purchase it new from us at a great deal, or new from a
retail store at a higher price, you are getting the same software. However, keep in mind that (in
either case), the software is designed to work on the stated operating system or systems listed,
and is not guaranteed to work on other ones.
|
Of special note, software stated Windows 3.1 "or higher" should work on Windows 95,
but is, unfortunately, not guaranteed to work on Windows ME (and, in some cases, may have
problems in some installations of Windows 98).
|
This information appears to be a fairly standard policy among the retail software vendors we
have talked to, so this is not some new or different policy. However, we wish to make sure that
redsapphire customers know this information in advance
so that there are no surprises.

Purchasing at an auction is different than buying at a regular store. An auction usually involves
an item that multiple buyers wish to buy, but the price is not set in advance. Each potential
buyer bids on the item, hoping to be the winning bidder by bidding the highest amount, but also
hoping to pay less than they are actually willing to spend. The winning bidder only becomes the
winner by offering to pay more money than the other bidders.
In brief, the seller wants to deal honestly and correctly define and sell an item at a good price.
The buyer wants to deal honestly and buy the stated item at the stated price. What follows below
are only some guidelines which sort of explain how such a transaction takes place.
The seller agrees to:
-
Contact winning bidder promptly (usually within one business day) at the close of the auction
-
Ship the item promptly (usually within two business days) after it has been paid for;
[the item is shipped insured against loss or damage]
-
Define the item as accurately as possible, including pictures and dimensions as available
-
Not misrepresent an item (i.e. state that it is something that it is not)
-
Identify when descriptive attributes are possible or likely, but not certain;
[for example, if an item is known to be brass, it will be stated as such; if an item is believed to be
gold-plated, stated by an unverified source, the description may state: "item is believed to gilded
brass, but this is not guaranteed"]
The buyer agrees to:
-
Purchase item at the winning bid price
-
Respond promptly to seller at the close of the auction
-
Pay for item promptly after having been notified of final costs
-
Understand that the item is sold "As-Is, As Defined"
-
Not expect item to be something it is not guaranteed to be;
[for example, if the description states: "item is believed to gilded brass, but this is not
guaranteed," then the buyer must use their own judgment based on appearance and
measurements of the item]
These basic guidelines should help us complete sales transactions that are pleasing to both
parties.

Ask a question by sending an e-mail to:
auctions@redsapphire.com
-
Include all pertinent information (item, auction number, site); the best reference for us is if you
copy and paste the URL address in your browser while you are viewing the auction
-
Please read the complete item description first, and then ask specific questions regarding the
item
-
Please ask questions only about current auctions; for history information on a closed auction,
you should be able to refer to the auction site
Good luck, and happy bidding.
